Summary
They ….. Today Janina Pietrasiak and Maria Lopuszanska live like sisters. They meet everyday and help each other. Maria’s parents were anti-Nazi underground activist, they sheltered Jania and her mother whom died of tuberculosis. Janina clung desperately to her new family. She was baptized to become part of the family to avoid being detected and killed by the Nazis thus she gave up living with an uncle in the United States. During the Warsaw Uprising, the girls had to fend her themselves as Maria’s father was sick and her mother were demonstrating against the Nazis. Maria was like a mother to the younger Janina whom lost both parents. Janina would bury herself in the older girl's skirt as the bombs exploded .She was like a mother .Maria was like a mother to the younger Janina. Both suffered from cancer, Maria had breast cancer, Janina is separated while Maria is a widow. She contacted the Yad Vashem Holocaust museum in Jerusalem to recognize Maria and her parents for saving her during WWI those cash can improve Maria’s financial situation.
